When you think of horseback riding, do any of the Kansas State Parks come to mind?  In particular, do you think of the El Dorado State Park?  If you answered no, you’re not alone - but you might be pleasantly surprised after reading this.

Allow me to introduce you to some of the nicest riding trails Kansas has to offer.  (And did I mention these equestrian trails are located in your local State Park?)  The best part is that the only fee for using the trails is the cost of a Park Vehicle Permit.  Many of these trails have been designed by local riders and horse enthusiasts, who generously share their expertise to create trails with a professional touch.

One of the great things about these equestrian trails is that they offer options for riders of all skill levels.  From the prairie grassland trail at El Dorado State Park to the wooded and shore-lined trails of Hillsdale State Park, Kansas State Parks offer a trail close to you.

One of the newest multi-use trails (for biking, hiking, and horseback riding) in the Kansas State Park system is the Flint Hills Trail State Park.  Once fully completed, the trail will stretch from Osawatomie to Herington, making it the eighth-longest rail-trail in the U.S. and the longest trail in Kansas.  And here’s the part everyone likes: there is no charge or permit required to use the park.

So wherever you are and whatever your riding abilities, Kansas has something to offer you.  Give your State Parks a chance to show off their best to you.  See ya later, partner-RJ
